Our Mission
The Arts Council
of Southern Oregon serves the residents of Jackson and Josephine
Counties and provides arts enrichment/education programs to children
and families, supports schools in making the arts a vital part
of every child's education, advocates for artists and arts organizations,
and promotes the cultural development of Southern Oregon.
We do this
by:
- Providing
the highest quality of arts enrichment/education programs to
schools with our Artists in the Schools (AIS) Program, Artists After Schol (AAS) Program and the Lithia Springs Music Program.
- Partnering
with local schools, school districts, education service districts,
and institutions of higher learning on projects and programs
that support arts education
- Providing
information and resources to artists, cultural organizations,
and community members
- Acting
as an advocate for all the arts

OUR HISTORY
The Arts Council has been serving the citizens of Jackson and Josephine Counties since 1976 by promoting all the arts and sponsoring the finests arts enrichments programs in our area. We are a designated regional arts council- one of nine in our state- by the Oregon Arts Commission.
The Arts Council is a public-benefit corporation that is tax exempt under Internal Revenue Code 501 (c) (3) and governed by a Board of Directors . The board of Directors is responsible for defining and fulfilling our simmsion, establishing policy, strategic planning, perpetuating itself(nomination of Board members), fund development and advocacy on behalf of the mission of the Arts Council of Southern Oregon.

Staff Bios:
Lyn Godsey, Executive Director
Lyn Godsey has been the executive director of the Arts Council since 2001. Before accepting her present role, Ms. Godsey served as the Director of Arts Education beginning in 1996. Before coming to the Arts Council, she worked for the OSU Extension in Lincoln County, taught at such schools as the College of Charleston, Kalamazoo College, Cal State at San Luis Obispo, and worked at several community theatres including as the Directoryof the Youth Theatre for the Kalmazoo Civic. Ms. Godsey's present work for the Arts Education program includes supervision of the Arts Ed staff, budget and financial management, grant writing, fund development and program design. Ms. Godsey holds a BA in theatre from the University of California at Riverside and an MFA in theatre education from the university of Washington.
Kate Jack, Arts Education Coordinator
Kate Jack joined the staff as Arts Education Coordinator of the Arts Council in 2006. Before joining the Arts Council she was the lead kindergarten and arts teacher for 9 years in Oregon and Arizona. Mrs. Jack holds a BFA in graphic design and fine arts from Oregon State Univerisy and is a certified classroom teacher. Mrs. Jack's duties include selection/hiring/supervision of teaching artists; coordination between sites, artists and the Arts Council; marketing the program; creating the AIS Directory, flyers, brochures and fund raising materials; and assisiting in in fundraising.
Mrs Jack is also a professional gold/silversmith, selling her jewelry in shops across Oregon.
